City of Water Day on Governors Island
Recently opened to the public, Governors Island is a must-see for New Yorkers. Enjoy fishing, historic tours, paddling, and music at this all day event.
Date: Saturday, July 26; rain date: Sunday July 27.
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Governors Island, NY.
Cost: Free for most activities except paddling. Check www.waterwire.net for details on how to paddle to the island. Ferry to the island is free.
Directions: By subway, take the #1 to South Ferry, R or W to Whitehall Street/ South Ferry, #4 or #5 to Bowling Green. Look for the Battery Maritime Building, which is the building east of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Free ferries leave every hour and half hour. Additional ferries will be running on the day of the event. Visit www.govisland.com for the most current schedule. From the ferry, make a right and walk along the path next to the water for 0.8 miles.
